Happiness is a tummy button that looks like a smile

Especially when paired with some googly eyes…..

In other fascinating news, I’ve been adding categories to my blog posts on both my blogs (cycling and pregnancy, not done the photography one yet) and getting it up to date and adding widgets etc.

Baby has been sitting uncomfortably all on my right today, with a foot firmly wedged into my ribs. Very active which is wonderful and fun and distracting.

Kitchen is coming along and we even have a microwave we can use! The best bit is there is now space in the living room to move and breathe and the cat is looking much more content.

28 weeks now!
I had my 28 week midwife appointment, in which I was mostly poked holes in. The Nurse did my Whooping Cough vaccine, then I had my anti-D shot and some blood taken. BP was low 102/56 or something, but measured manually rather than with a digital device, but everything else looked good.

Whooping cough vacc did make me feel a bit ill with a heavy arm, but I mostly ignored it to get some work done, then paint a base coat on the kitchen and then go to yoga! I didn’t cycle to yoga as I forgot that the builders had the cupboard key so I couldn’t get my bike out. Felt a bit sicky the day after, so didn’t go to aqua-natal. Hope to make it along next week though.

Picked up some second hand maternity clothes in a bundle from a localish lady this week (thank goodness for having more to wear) and some friends very kindly donated a huge bag of the most beautiful baby clothes I have ever seen! We are so lucky to have such great friends.

fighting my curiosity

Today I am working at home (I’m taking a break for a blog post as I started rather early this morning….).

Today signifies day 1 of The Kitchen. We’ve spent the last week packing up our kitchen utensils into boxes and having increasingly larger supplies of stuff delivered (floor/cooker/units) and I believe we now have 74 boxes in our living room containing parts of kitchen units, plus all the other bits like microwave, dishwasher, oven, flooring and worksurfaces. All the things from inside the old units are in boxes on a tarpaulin in the garden, covered by a dodgy gazebo.

The cat is quite seriously discombobulated. So I am. I got up early this morning as I “thought I heard a skip” arriving, and was unable to go back to sleep. So I had an early and productive start to my working day. I now have two workmen gently unscrewing and bashing the hell out of things. I made them a cuppa (no, not to go and be curious….) to find all the doors off, three units out and a huge chunk of worksurface out. Very impressed with their speed. The stereo has gone on, the cat is under their feet and they seem to be happy. The husband is making a stop-motion film of the kitchen job (using a webcam and a low powered computer to take a picture every 10 seconds for the whole day today to see if it works). Should be really cool to see how it all works. Best bit is seeing just what a terrible job has been done in the first place of our kitchen. The walls are either bare behind the cupboards (with no backs on the cupboards) or sporting some horrible 70’s and 80’s wallpaper…. it’s just horrible. Although we will likely have to paint around the cupboards, at least the walls will be finished and nice behind the units.

I’d like to apologise to Baby D, as it’s room is currently being used as storage.

As is the garden. And the lounge. Help me!

We’ve never done anything like this before, so it’s a new and scary experience!

Perspective is a funny thing. I’m a photographer, I should know this.

Hillarious picture taken by my husband of 2 big bellies!

I’d like to say that neither of us are really this big. Probably.

Also- Good news is that I found my anti-sickness tablets. And was very sick before they kicked back in again 😦 Ah well, at least I know that when I don’t accidentally throw them in the bin, they work well!

In other news, our entire kitchen has arrived ready for the demolition of the old one on Monday! Eek! The world is not ending. Have perspective. It’s just a lot of boxes and mess and being without a kitchen for two weeks….

Repeating myself…..

This week has been a little stressful- with the delirium of managing to get through the week coupled with the crippling tiredness of nausea and vomiting, plus managing a whole (ok almost whole) week at work has been very confusing.

Apart from the scary miscarriage poster, I had a small scare about a pregnant friend who had a fall (think she’s ok- I bet she had more of a scare than I did, but you feel so helpless!), still no scan date and the dubious fun of arranging a repeat prescription.

I work in another town (leave home 7am, get home 7pm kind of thing) so I’m unable to fill in repeat prescription form at the surgery during opening hours, or even pick one up and post it another time. My husband also works in another town and is out mostly during the opening hours of my surgery. I’m the kind of numpty who lost the bit of paper with the repeat prescription on from the last lot, so I can’t fill in and post through the dr surgery door.

My drs won’t take over the phone prescription renewals, but they did say on their website that I could do it by email, which I have attempted to do, but there’s no reply from them to confirm that they’ve received and/or processed it.

I had to send my husband back from work early on Friday night to pop in to see if it was ready and give full instructions of what to put on the form if the email hadn’t arrived. Thankfully all was good, save the usual snotty rude receptionist who treated my husband like he’d asked for a blow job rather than to pick up my prescription!

And what are we doing at the moment? Trying to choose a new kitchen. As that’s not stressful at all!

We’ve been to most the usual cheaper places (Homebase, B&Q, Wickes) and a few of the more expensive (Magnet, Optiplan online) and think we’ve made a decision (ish). There’s so much to think about- layout, units (top and bottom) appliances (which to replace, which to keep), worktops, lighting, sinks, taps, handles, clever corner magic swirly pully-outy-things, discounts….. There’s A Man coming on Monday, and hopefully he will have some good ideas about the planning and dimensions. But I guess with baby on the way, we’ll not have any more money than we do now (having almost recovered from replacing our car just over 2 years ago, the wedding 3 years ago and buying the house 4 years ago)……

But it’s still a lot of money.

And it’s very scary.

And last of all- I haven’t received my scan date. Now I love mumsnet (hello September thread buddies reading this!), but as my baby is due near the end of the month, most of the people on my thread are 1-3 weeks ahead of me, progress wise. And on top of that, it seems my area has a slightly weird way of doing things. Apparently in Surrey, you don’t get sent your scan date in the post until you’re 12 weeks pregnant, and it’s booked in for week 13. Whereas it’s to my understanding that you usually receive a scan date 1 week after your booking in appt (which we had at 8weeks +5days) for around weeks 11-13 ish. So all my chat-thread-buddies have all either a) had their scan already or b)have a date for a scan.

I feel a bit behind as I’d like to have my scan date- but also because I am now back at work and I am getting very booked up, so I’d like to be able to plan ahead. Husband is also busy and will need to take half a day or so off for the scan!
